Salem’s Girls, rumors whispered, were bewitched. They flapped their arms as if they could take to the air. The girls made strange, animalistic noises – barking like dogs, twisting and twitching. They crept under chairs and stools, gestured frantically, uttered intelligibly. Then Ann and Elizabeth began to exhibit similarly strange behavior. What unnatural affliction had found them? Stunned and “struck dumb,” they choked and convulsed, uncontrollably thrashed their limbs. Both Betty and Abigail were sized with fits. The configuration of a coffin emerged in the glass.
